IÖB Innovation Platform - Challenge

This Innovation Challenge seeks practical, scalable solutions to automate routine road maintenance and temporary worksites across Europe. Operators face rising pressure from climate change, aging assets and growing traffic, while many processes remain manual, fragmented and risky for workers. In cooperation with ASECAP, the challenge aims to improve safety, efficiency and sustainability by better integrating vehicles, safety equipment and digital systems for use in diverse national contexts.

In a nutshell – what it’s about

• Automating routine maintenance tasks (e.g. safety equipment, mowing, cleaning, winter service)

• Reducing worker exposure to high-risk motorway environments

• Improving real-time information and traffic management at road worksites

• Integrating vehicles, safety devices and digital / IT systems

• Enabling scalable solutions that work across different European legal and operational frameworks
